For Editors

Banach Press journals are edited by independent editorial boards drawn from the international research community. We provide the publishing infrastructure and the imprint; the scholarly judgment stays with the editors who know the field.

Editorial structure

Overall responsibility for a journal rests with its editor-in-chief, who is active in the field, acts as the point of contact for editorial correspondence, and answers for what the journal publishes. An editor-in-chief is supported by an editorial board of subject experts and, as a journal grows, by associate or section editors who triage submissions and manage review in their area.

Editorial independence

Each journal's editor-in-chief and editorial board hold full authority over its scope, its review standards, and its publication decisions. Banach Press does not intervene in individual editorial decisions; our role is to support the board with a stable imprint, indexing, and the policies described under Research Integrity.

What we ask of editors

  • Render decisions promptly, and on the merits of the work.
  • Recruit reviewers with the expertise a submission actually needs, and step back from any manuscript where you have a conflict of interest.
  • Uphold the research-integrity standards that apply across the portfolio, and refer suspected misconduct for investigation rather than letting it pass.
  • Help build a board of active, publishing researchers who can advocate for the journal within their own field.

Reviewer expectations

Reviewers are asked to treat a submitted manuscript as confidential until it is published, to judge it on its merits rather than the identity or affiliation of its authors, to disclose any conflict of interest and decline where one exists, and to return a report the author can act on, specific enough to be useful, even where the recommendation is to reject.

Starting a new journal

Our program is actively expanding beyond the Journal of Convex Analysis, toward pure and applied mathematics, theoretical computer science, mathematical physics, and the philosophy of science more broadly.
